However, as a consequence, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has imposed a penalty of Rs. 50 million on Central Power Generation Company Limited for submitting erroneous information that had eventually affected electricity prices for consumers.

Interestingly, the Guddu Thermal Power Station, CPGCL got a gas booster from Engro Corporation without any cost but recovered over RS. 1.24 billion without any declaration of this fact suggests this critical aspect. NEPRA found that CPGCL did not declare it to them that they had acquired the gas booster compressor station absolutely free.

Moreover, NEPRA noted that it was not granted proper approval by the ECC over these charges. CPGCL has claimed ECC approval, but does not present authentic documents for this purpose.

NEPRA also issued show cause notices to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and National Transmission and Despatch Company for breaching norms pertaining to agreements signed with different power producers in the aftermath of the nationwide blackout in January 2021. These companies may attract penalties going up to Rs200 million for their respective violations.
