The SSGC has begun adding installation charges of Rs. 2,085 for conical baffles in its geyser campaign and that amount is being added in the bill of all consumers from its network of 3.2 million users across the country.
Many people are disturbed by the additional levies especially among those who do not have geysers at home. Furthermore, all levies were charged before even starting the installation thus agitating the public further.
To this, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority clarified that installing conical baffles improves safety and saves gas. It further advised consumers who do not own geysers but were charged to raise complaints with SSGC or OGRA.
SSGC officials said the charges were cleared by OGRA after the surveys were undertaken. The work of installing baffles has already begun in selected places by contractors. The company is, meanwhile, requesting consumers to approach their nearest Customer Facilitation Centers (CFC) in case there is any query over these charges.
Being part of the overall plan to conserve energy, the government installed the conical baffles. In an endeavour to build public awareness in this regard, the SSGC also has announced that these baffles could save the consumer 25% on his gas bills, besides contributing to national gas conservation efforts.
