Pakistan Govt Moves Ahead with Privatization of PIA, Seeks Sale to Qatar or Abu Dhabi
Pakistan’s government is moving ahead with privatization plans for Pakistan International Airlines. The airline will probably be sold to Qatar or Abu Dhabi through a government-to-government (G2G) deal. One can submit their expressions of interest until November 30.
This is after the cancellation of an initial tender by the Blue World Consortium, which had expressed interest in a purchase of 10 billion rupees worth of shares in PIA. The government has revised its approach following the annulment of this bid and now prefers to sell to either Qatar or Abu Dhabi.
It entails some conditions agreed to earlier with the buyer for safe and secure interests of Pakistan while ensuring a long-term future for PIA.
Further details are to emerge when the process of privatization continues on the terms of the sale and the future role under the new ownership, and further clarification and details of these conditions may be warranted in the public domain.
