PTBA Asks FBR to Share Data on Fraudulent Refund Claimants
The Pakistan Tax Bar Association has written to the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue requesting information regarding fraudulent refund claims, including FIRs filed against those who have lodged such claims.
In a letter to the FBR Takes Action Against Sales Tax Fraud: Five Arrested in Nationwide Sweep claimed that the FBR was broadcasting news concerning the massive fictitious refund claims made by taxpayers. This letter demanded from the FBR to make information and publish about the FIR registered, amount. of tax evaded and action being taken against wrongdoers.
The PTBA further added that the FBR has introduced a category of non-filers and has been providing higher tax deduction rates under various sections of the Income Tax Ordinance. The FBR has gathered enough information about non-filers through audits, tax monitoring, and data related to sales tax under the Sales Tax Act, 1990 PTBA has requested the FBR to share updates on how non-filers have been converted into filers.
The PTBA also reminded the FBR about the implementation of the Point of Sale system, which was introduced more than two years ago to document the supply chain. The association has asked for data on how many POS systems have been installed across Pakistan and what impact this has had on tax revenue collection through real-time invoicing.
On the whole, PTBA is seeking transparency from the FBR on its fraudulent refund claims and steps taken in this regard.
