Lahore: Pakistan and Russia are all set to start their first trial freight train service in March 2025, paving the way for big economic, political gains between the two countries.

Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari announced it, saying that the decision of  launching freight train service had been taken in Pakistan’s national interest and was without any external pressure. “Our relations with Russia are for Pakistan and not influenced by any third party,” he said.

Leghari said that the emerging relationship between Pakistan and Russia should not be perceived under the rubric of the East-West. politics. Instead, Pakistan continues to engage with all partners for mutual benefit.

During the press conference, he also referred to the backing from both Russia and China, stating that these two countries are assisting Pakistan at different levels to help meet its development objectives.

The trial freight train service to be held next month is likely to strengthen the trade and connectivity between Pakistan and Russia, thereby bringing new opportunities for both nations and further enhancing bilateral relations.
