Pakistan Cancels Passports of 4,700 Citizens in UAE Over Criminal Activities
Pakistan has taken stringent measures against its citizens involved in criminal activities in the United Arab Emirates. The Ministry of Interior, along with news outlet ARY News, reports that passports of 4,700 Pakistani nationals, currently jailed in the UAE, have been cancelled.
The decision comes after UAE authorities shared information about 5,292 Pakistani citizens serving prison sentences for different crimes. Out of these, 2,470 people are in prison for drug-related offenses. Another 100 are convicted for fraud, deception, and sexual harassment.
Further, the Pakistan government has also withdrawn the passports of 704 Pakistanis arrested on charges of theft and 216 who are incarcerated for other serious crimes such as murder and robbery. Additionally, the government has canceled passports of 375 Pakistanis residing illegally in the UAE.
It is part of the overall measures, Pakistan is undertaking to contain criminal activities abroad and also bring the culprits to book.
