Port Qasim Authority Approves Temporary Coal Handling for PIBT at Alternate Wharves.
Karachi: Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has permitted Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBT) to offload coal-laden vessels at Marginal Wharves 3 and 4 on temporary basis due to disruptions at PIBT’s terminal.
According to the official statement of PIBT at the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the current arrangement will be continued until the terminal’s operations are completely restored. The objective of the move is to maintain the smooth flow of coal handling operations and minimize the delays in the process.
Earlier, PIBT had reported that on 19 November 2024, a fire during the discharge of a coal cargo damaged seriously the terminal infrastructure. The terminal confirmed that it was beyond their control and affected part of the terminal and normal operations were disrupted.
This is the temporary coal handling solution and part of efforts to continue coal deliveries without significant interruption of operations at Port Qasim.
