SCCI Chairman Asks Government to Cut Policy Rate by 500 BPS for Economic Growth
SARGODHA: Shamim Aftab, chairman of the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), has urged the government to cut the policy rate by 500 basis points to help boost economic growth in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Aftab said lowering the policy rate would spur economic activity and benefit the country in general She pointed out that prompt action would help with national economic, stability and display the effectiveness of recent policy measures.
Aftab, while talking about the drop in the Consumer Price Index of November 2024 into 4.9 percent from 7.2 percent in the previous month, also added that changes in inflation had been marked as better than expected to which she credited the labor of economic planners and a resilient business community.
“We support policies that would make people’s lives better,” declared the SCCI chairman, “and are keen on continuing to cooperate with the government, industry stakeholders, and international partners in improving, strengthening, and extending all these positive trends,” according to him.
For reducing the policy rate, Aftab is convinced Pakistan can improve its economy still further and see durable growth.
