Sindh govt requests centre support for Keti Bander Port feasibility study
The Sindh government has formally requested the federal government to help Pakistan Gas Solutions Limited (PGSL) get the much-needed approvals to conduct a feasibility study of the Keti Bander Port.
The Energy Department of the Government of Sindh forwarded a letter to the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs regarding the development of Keti Bander Port. LNG, RLNG, LPG, containers, and general cargo would be handled through this port.
On July 10, 2034, PGSL addressed a letter to the Chief Minister of Sindh, saying that the company was interested in developing the port on Keti Bander. Permission was requested for the study of feasibility to determine whether the port could be used for cargo diversification, such as LNG, containers, and general cargo.
The Sindh Cabinet considered the proposal in a meeting on December 4, 2024. They decided to accept the request and permit PGSL to conduct the study after careful consideration. The Energy Department issued a Letter of Support with clear conditions that PGSL will conduct the study at its own cost and risk and without any financial liability on the Government of Sindh.
Once the feasibility study is finalized and approved, the Sindh government will negotiate the terms of a possible Implementation Agreement with PGSL to take the project forward.
To initiate the study, the Sindh government has requested the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to facilitate PGSL in obtaining the necessary permissions and approvals under relevant laws and policies.
