Pakistans export industry has a lot of products that people do not know about. These are products that many countries want to buy. One of these products is gum. Guar gum is sold around the world. It makes a lot of money. There are not many people in Pakistan who export it. If you want to export something you should know about guar gum.

    What Is Guar Gum?

Guar gum comes from a plant called guar. Many people in Pakistan know about guar because they eat it as a vegetable. The seeds of the guar plant are taken out. Made into guar splits. Then these splits are made into gum powder.

Guar gum is used for two things:

    • It makes things thicker. This means it is added to liquids to make them thicker.
    • It stops things from separating. For example it is used in yogurt to keep the water and solids mixed together.

Guar gum is popular because it is natural and comes from plants. It is also cheaper, than things that do the same job. This is why guar gum is used in industries.

    Where is Guar Gum Used?

Guar gum isn’t an unusual ingredient. Its used in an estimated 15 to 20 different industries, including:

    • Food and beverages. Thickening sauces, soups and ice cream
    • Dairy products. Stabilizing yogurt and preventing water separation
    • Pharmaceuticals. Used in syrups and other liquid medicines
    • Automotive and industrial products
    • Numerous other manufacturing applications where thickening or stabilization is required

This wide-ranging use is exactly why demand for Guar Gum is strong in almost every country in the world.

    HS Code and International Naming

If you plan to export Guar Gum you need to know how its identified internationally:

    • HS Code: 13230
    • food additive code: E412
    • Common trade names: Guar Gum, Gawar Gum or E412

Knowing this terminology matters. International buyers will expect you to be familiar, with these codes and using them correctly builds credibility from your very first inquiry.

    Market Size and Global Demand

When we think about exporting a product we need to make sure people actually want to buy it. If not we are just competing with others to sell something that’s not in demand. Guar gum is different.

Guar gum is natural. It does not cost a lot of money compared to other thickening and stabilizing agents that are made in a lab. Because of this every country uses guar gum in some way. To give you an idea of how big the market’s in just three months, which is February, March and April Pakistan exported guar gum worth Rs. 3.11 Billion, which is 311 crore.

Even though guar gum is in demand not many exporters in Pakistan are working with guar gum. This is because not a lot of people know about guar gum. Guar gum is where we can find an opportunity.

Profit Margins in the Guar Gum Export Business

Exporting guar gum can be very profitable compared to products:

    • Average profit margin is 30 percent
    • Potential range is, between 30 percent and 70 percent. Sometimes it can be even higher depending on where we get guar gum and who we sell it to. Guar gum export is a business because the profit margins are high. Guar gum is a product that can give us a profit.

Which Countries Import Guar Gum from Pakistan?

Pakistan already exports guar gum to a list of countries including:

China, South Korea, Afghanistan, Malaysia, the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Kenya, the Philippines, Denmark, Italy, Taiwan and Brazil.

Among all of these three markets stand out as the importers of Pakistani guar gum:

    • United States
    • China
    • Japan

If you’re just starting out these three countries are where you’ll find the most active buyers and the strongest demand making them the ideal first targets for your marketing efforts.

Global Competition: Who Else Exports Guar Gum?

Understanding your competition is just as important as understanding your buyers. Globally guar gum exports are dominated by:

    • India. Supplies 80% of the worlds guar gum with Rajasthan as the leading producing state followed by Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab
    • United States
    • Australia
    • New Zealand

For exporters based in Rajasthan or elsewhere, in India this represents a massive existing opportunity. For exporters it means the real competitive gap isn’t overseas. It’s the fact that so few local businesses are even entering this market.

Where to Find Guar Gum in Pakistan

Guar is grown in parts of Pakistan and is not hard to find. Some of the areas where guar is produced are:

    • Multan
    • Muzaffargarh
    • Layyah
    • Mianwali
    • Sargodha
    • Bahawalpur
    • Bahawalnagar
    • Many places in Punjab and Sindh

Changing raw guar into guar gum powder is a factory process. Of starting your own factory right away which is expensive and complicated the better first step is to connect with companies that already produce guar gum. Buy the finished or partially finished product from them start building your list of buyers and only think about opening your processing plant when you are already successful.

    Packaging Needs

The usual packaging for guar gum exported from Pakistan includes:

    • 25-kilogram craft paper bags
    • A plastic liner inside each bag to keep the product safe

If you are getting the product, from a company that is already making guar gum they usually take care of the packaging.. Knowing these details helps you talk clearly with suppliers and customers.

So you want to export Guar Gum Here is how you do it.

First you need to understand the product, the market and where you will get the Guar Gum from. Then the export process is divided into four parts.

    1. Getting Ready to Export Guar Gum

This is the part where you set up your business. You need to do a things:

    • Register your business and get a National Tax Number
    • Register for Sales Tax
    • Get a membership from the Chamber of Commerce
    • Register on the Pakistan Single Window
    • Make a website for your company with all the details, registration certificate and information about the Guar Gum

This part is very important. People who buy Guar Gum from countries will look for you on the internet before they even think about responding to your message. If they do not find your website or any information, about your company they will not take you seriously. It does not matter if you are selling the Guar Gum for a low price.

    2. Ready for Export

With your business registered and your online presence established, the next step is entering the market:

    • Find buyers through marketing and outreach
    • Launch a targeted marketing campaign toward priority markets (USA, China, Japan)
    • Negotiate and secure orders or contracts
    • Finalize payment terms โ€” whether advance payment, Letter of Credit (LC), or a combination

    3. Documentation

Once an order is confirmed and payment terms are in place, it’s time to prepare the paperwork:

    • Prepare a commercial invoice and packing list
    • Generate the FI (Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate) from your bank once advance payment is received
    • Contact a freight forwarder or customs clearing agent to arrange the container and CR (Cargo Receipt) booking
    • Hand over your invoice, packing list, and FI to the agent, who coordinates the container delivery, loading schedule, and customs clearance

Whether your shipment is a full container load (FCL) or a smaller loose cargo shipment (LCL), your agent manages the logistics โ€” you simply confirm when your goods are ready to load.

    4. Shipment

After the container is loaded and handed over, your agent takes care of:

    • Customs clearance
    • Issuing the Bill of Lading (B/L)
    • Certificate of Origin
    • Phytosanitary Certificate
    • Fumigation Certificate

From here, how documents reach your buyer depends on your payment terms:

    • Advance payment: Courier the original documents directly to the buyer via DHL or a similar service
    • Letter of Credit (LC): Submit all documents through your bank
    • Partial payment (e.g., 50% advance / 50% on DP or against documents): Documents are routed through the bank, with a scanned copy of the B/L sent to the buyer as proof of shipment before releasing the originals

It’s also important to keep photocopies of all shipping documents for your own records and for bank submission โ€” banks can request proof of shipment against advance payments even years later, so maintaining organized records saves you unnecessary follow-up hassle.

    Final Thoughts

Guar gum is really something that people who want to export things should think about. It is in demand over the world people can make good money from it and it is easy to find in Pakistan. Also not many people in Pakistan are exporting gum so there is not a lot of competition. This makes it a good thing for old exporters to sell because they do not have to spend a lot of money to make it.

If you want to start an export business you should do the things first. You should get your business registered make a website and start talking to people, in countries who might want to buy guar gum from you. The chance to export guar gum is there. Not many people are doing it. Guar gum is an opportunity and people who export guar gum can make money from it.
