    Pakistan Imports Over 110,000 Metric Tons of Pulses Worth $73.8 Million in July

    Pakistan Imports 110,098 Metric Tons of Pulses Valued at $73.8 Million During July

    Pakistan imported 110,098 metric tons of pulses worth $73.8 million during the first month of the fiscal year 2025-26. That is a 13.25% increase from the corresponding period of last year, when 96,223 metric tons of pulses worth $55.6 million were imported, based on figures provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

    To meet the local demand for cooking oil and vegetable ghee, Pakistan imported over 29,150 metric tons of soybean oil, valued at $31.8 million, in July 2025. This is a sharp increase of 3,033.64% compared to the 1,000 metric tons worth $1.02 million imported during July 2024.

    Palm oil imports also increased immensely. A total of 286,836 metric tons of palm oil worth $302.1 million was imported in July 2025, a 26.11% rise from 256,460 metric tons worth $239.6 million last year.

    Imports of food products increased in July 2025 to a value of $743.9 million, an improvement of 44.90% from $513.4 million during the same month last year. Interestingly, milk, cream, and infant food imports increased by 92.64% to 6,555 metric tons valued at $15.02 million, up from 3,728 metric tons valued at $7.8 million during July 2024.

    Besides, Pakistan also imported 7,079 metric tons of nuts and dry fruits worth $8.3 million, a 42.95% increase from the previous year. Tea imports slightly increased by 0.27% to 19,030 metric tons worth $42 million. Spices imports rose by 19%, with more than 19,556 metric tons worth $23.8 million.

    Even as imports increased, food exports of Pakistan reduced by 10.25% in July 2025 from $475.8 million in July 2024 to $427 million. Rice, vegetable, and oilseed exports declined, whereas fruit, fish, and tobacco exports increased. Most importantly, meat exports improved by 9.8%, with the export of more than 9,031 metric tons worth $40.5 million in July 2025.
