TDAP Urged to Keep Export Sectors Updated on Global Trends
ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce requested that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) keep various sectors informed about the latest global export trends and demands. This will help ensure that actions can be taken promptly and effectively.
During the meeting, the committee pointed out several areas where TDAP’s operations could improve. One of the main areas was the need for better facilitation of trade leads generated by the Trade Information Office (TIO). Faiz Ahmed, the Chief Executive of TDAP, was present to address the committee.
Senator Anusha Rehman, who heads the committee, stressed the need for better communication and support to help sectors involved in exports.
The committee was also informed that TDAP has set up 10 new trade missions in Pakistani High Commissions abroad to promote Pakistani products. These missions are now operating in Athens (Greece), Chengdu (China), Baghdad, Singapore, Budapest (Hungary), Beijing, Muscat (Oman), Darussalam (Tanzania), Maputo (Mozambique), and Kuwait.
TDAP officials shared that the authority’s promotional activities have shown success. Events like the Food Expo, Texpo, and EHCS contributed to a business worth $2.42 billion last year. TDAP participated in 44 expos this year.
Anusha Rehman also mentioned that the pharmaceutical sector had requested the creation of a “Pharma Excel” initiative. She suggested that TDAP should consider establishing a dedicated pharmaceutical department, including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and nutraceuticals.
