FBR Cancels Saturday Holiday for Tax Officers to Improve Tax Collection
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that all tax officers throughout the country will now work on Saturdays until June 30, 2025. This is being done to achieve the revised tax collection target for the ongoing financial year (FY2024-25).
FBR has issued directives to all Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue. These directives are to be followed by all Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayer Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs). They are now supposed to consider Saturdays as normal working days.
This is amid FBR efforts to catch up with its revenue target. For the first nine months of FY25, the FBR remained short by Rs. 700 billion.
Following this, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved reducing the tax collection target on a yearly basis from Rs. 12,970 billion to Rs. 12,370 billion.
The FBR is now taking stronger enforcement measures to bridge the gap and ensure the revised target is met by the end of the fiscal year.
