Pakistan Food Exports Decline 32% in June 2025 – Vegetable and Rice Exports are Affected the Worst
Food exports of Pakistan declined drastically in June 2025 by 32% over June 2024, and by 37% over May 2025, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Total exports of the country in June 2025 were $2.48 billion, down 7.26% compared to May 2025, and 3.17% below June 2024.
Big Decline in Food Product Exports
 Food exports for the month of June 2025 stood at a mere $367.7 million, down steeply from $584.5 million in May and $544 million in June last year. This significant drop is a cause of concern since food exports form an important segment of Pakistan’s economy. During the entire financial year, food exports dropped by 3.4% to $7.11 billion.
Food Export Performance Breakdown
- Rice Exports: Fell by 14.7% in total
- Basmati rice: Down by 5.3% at $830 million
- Non-basmati rice: Declined by 17.4% to $2.5 billion
- Exports of Vegetables: Down 14.5% to $367.6 million
- Fruit Exports: Down 10.3%, now at $308 million
- Meat Exports: Down 3.2%, at $495 million
Segments Experiencing Growth
Not all segments experienced declines:
- Fish and Seafood Exports: Up by 13.4% to $465 million
- Sugar Exports: Stepped up a whopping 1,851% to reach $411.1 million
- Tobacco Exports: Up more than 300% year-on-year and 16.3% since May
Overall Trade Overview
In the fiscal year 2024-2025, the overall exports of Pakistan were $32 billion, which is 4.45% higher than the last year.
Imports for June 2025 stood at $4.87 billion, with a 6.97% decrease from May and a 1.85% decrease from June 2024.
