He said that strict measures are now in place not to issue CNICs and passports to non-Pakistani nationals. To this end, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar assured the National Assembly on Thursday.

Tarar told the House that MNAs Sehar Kamran and Noor Alam Khan expressed a three-tier verification process in all passport offices across the country has dealt with apprehensions regarding the possibility of Pakistan giving identification documents to Afghan nationals. This three-tier verification process is detailed as under:

    • The verification source is verified at the hand of the gazetted officer.
    • The source of verification is again matched.
    • Data is cross-checked through the Family Registration Certificate database of NADRA.

According to him, the NADRA database is checked thoroughly to avoid errors. The FIA is also investigating cases related to the issuance of CNICs to foreigners.

Tarar urged those who know something about or have some information related to such malpractices or fake issuance of any document to approach the concerned authorities and inform them.

He said that now all applicants must come with valid proof of residence and all other departments working along with NADRA are utilizing its advance technology, for face recognition and other verification of identities.

Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq said that there were issues earlier but perhaps those would not happen in future.
