KP Government Brings Solar Energy to All Public Buildings
The government of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province launched a massive scheme of bringing solar power across the provinces. This project covers conversions of different buildings of government such as hospitals, schools, police stations, prison houses, and other governmental offices into solar power.
Apart from these buildings, tubewells, street lights, and religious buildings will also be required to be installed with solar panels. The concept of installing solar panels is the reduced electricity cost while ensuring a steady supply with interruptions.
Till now, 13,000 units have been enrolled, so the project will require around 73 MW in terms of solar energy. So, the project would eventually generate 92 million units of solar electricity in each year.
This shall save the KP government approximately Rs2 billion annually in electricity charges, and the total budget is Rs10 billion. He had issued directives to the team to expedite all preparations to launch this project right away.
In addition to government buildings, the project also aims to switch 7,000 mosques and 3,000 seminaries in all provinces to solar energy. This is one major step toward using clean renewable energy and away from dependency on traditional power sources.
Recently, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur presided over a meeting for review of this project‘s work. In the said meeting, committee members along with Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam briefed that what is the current situation with the project and which are the data being prepared these days.
This move with solar energy at large scales reflects KP‘s commitment towards sustainable development and efficiency of energy.
