Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has given the green signal to establish three new provincial authorities that aim to do better than the local development, sanitation, and horticulture work in the province. It has been decided in the special meeting on Sunday.
The three new authorities will be set up under the Punjab Development Authority, the Punjab Water & Sanitation Authority, and the Punjab Horticulture Authority. The respective legislations to formally establish the same will be presented shortly.
These authorities shall formulate central policies and strategies; local agencies will implement plans related to development, water and sanitation, and horticulture.
The meeting also discussed issues about setting up governing boards and directors for these authorities. CM Maryam underscored the need to switch streetlights on solar power as soon as possible.
Provincial ministers Bilal Yasin and Zeeshan Rafique, senior officers and chief secretary attended the meeting. The secretaries of housing and local government remained present through video link.
