Karachi Airport Mail Office: Customs seize 1.25kg of Marijuana
KARACHI: Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) seized 1.25 kilograms of marijuana, as authorities received credible information from Collector Adeem Khan and Additional Collector Muhammad Faisal.
The team at customs closely watched EMS post parcels, which they presumed to be carrying illegal drugs from Bangkok, Thailand. As part of an intelligence operation, the team intercepted a suspicious parcel sent by one Thanuphoon from Bangkok. The package contained dried food and was meant for someone in Karachi.
The parcel contained 1.25 kilograms of raw marijuana, costing approximately Rs.5 million. The quick test result turned out to be positive for it was indeed marijuana.
This seizure is part of a more concerted effort by Pakistan Customs to monitor packages coming from Bangkok. An FIR is being lodged in order to trace the people involved, including the financiers and the drug network connected with this shipment. The sender and recipient are being pursued and sought along with wider narcotics operations that may be part of this package.
This successful operation reflects the intentions of Pakistan Customs toward combating international drug trafficking at JIAP.
