Karachi: It has now been confirmed by the Karachi Customs Agents Association that the container backlog at the Karachi International Container Terminal has been cleared. The issue had caused delays in cargo handling and affected port operations, but normal activity has now been restored.

Sheikh Waqas Anjum, the General Secretary of KCAA, mentioned that the issue had been resolved due to close coordination between KCAA, Pakistan Customs Appraisement West, and the KICT management. According to him, the Association remained in close contact with all stakeholders for the removal of the backlog as soon as possible.

KCAA commended the efforts of both Customs and KICT management in the restoration of operations to normalcy. On the other hand, the Association also stressed that smooth and consistent operations should be maintained to prevent any recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

Anjum added that KCAA will continue to monitor port operations and maintain liaison with Customs and terminal operators to safeguard the interests of its members and facilitate smooth trade.

The announcement has relieved importers, exporters, and clearing agents who were experiencing serious delays on account of the backlog, which had the potential to slow down trade at one of Pakistan’s busiest container terminals.
