Customs Foil Illegal Exportation of Jaggery to US
Karachi: Customs agents at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ) have successfully frustrated an illegal jaggery-export attempt to the United States when the export, according to them, was duly prohibited under the Export Policy Order of 2022 controlling some exports.
It is reported that a tip-off was received by the Collectorate of Customs Exports at PMBQ from the Collector, Exports, Saadia Sheeraz that M/s Dream Food Industries attempted an illegal export. An exporter, with the aid of Customs Clearing Agent G.S.S. Traders, filed an export declaration for shipment carrying various food items including fried onions, spices, dried fruits, and soft drinks amongst household goods such as non-stick frying pans.
Information having been received by the Deputy Collector (Exports), Usman Hameed Butt, he immediately formed an inspection team. On opening the container No. TLLU5365965 for proper inspection, the team found jaggery totaling 6,009 kilograms stashed in the containers’ corners.
As jaggery is prohibited from being exported, the authorities seized the consignment immediately and lodged a case against the exporter and the clearing agent. Further, all individuals involved in this illegal activity are under investigation.
