Over 71,000 CNICs Blocked in Pakistan in Five Years
During Question Hour in the National Assembly, the Ministry of Interior presented an extensive report about CNICs that had been blocked during the past five years. A total of 71,849 CNICs were reportedly blocked for a number of reasons, including the non-verification issue.
Blocked CNICs: Province-wise Details
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reported the highest number, 25,981.
Punjab: More than 13,000 cards were blocked.
Sindh: Registered 9,677 blocked CNICs.
Balochistan: Reported 20,583 blocked CNICs.
Islamabad: The federal capital had 1,370 blocked CNICs.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): Recorded 446 blocked CNICs.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB): Reported 228 blocked CNICs.
Blocked CNICs Progress
The ministry highlighted the efforts made to respond to the issue. Out of the total number, 44,460 CNICs were unblocked after proper verification were carried out. However, there are still 13,618 cases under investigation, leaving many issues unresolved.
Statistics have showcased the scale of verification challenges as it has been noticed to be higher in Pakistan, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa topping the list of canceled CNICs. Authorities continue trying to resolve cases piling up in courts and make sure proper utilization of all identification systems.
