Pakistan’s Exports to Europe Grow by 10% in July- February FY25
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan exports to European nations increasedby 9.41% in the first eight months (July to February) of the current fiscal year (FY25) compared to the previous year. The increase was primarily due to high demand in Western and Southern Europe for textile and apparel products.
Total exports to the European Union (EU) amounted to $5.921 billion, according to the State Bank of Pakistan, as compared to $5.412 billion during the corresponding period of FY24.
Main Highlights by Region:
Western Europe (including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Netherlands) witnessed the largest increase. Exports to this region jumped by 11.67%, amounting to $2.918 billion compared to $2.613 billion last year.
Northern Europe had the largest percentage rise. Exports rose by 17.73% to $498.61 million from $423.51 million.
Southern Europe also recorded growth, but the increase was smaller. Exports rose by 2.69% to $2.021 billion from $1.968 billion during the same period of FY24.
Country-Wise Breakdown (Southern Europe):
- Spain: Minor rise of 0.87% to $973.57 million
- Italy: Rose by 1.83% to $747.03 million
- Greece: Rose by 9.53% to $92.02 million
Though Pakistan enjoys the GSP+ advantage (duty-free exports to most EU nations), exports slipped marginally in FY24. However, the bounce indicates enhanced demand and interest in Pakistani products, particularly textiles, on the continent.
Despite some fears regarding compliance with EU trade conditions, Pakistan has thus far managed to steer clear of severe criticism, thanks mostly to Europe’s preoccupation with the war in Ukraine.
