Pakistan has formally inaugurated its first National Dredging and Marine Services (NDMS) firm in collaboration with the Port Qasim Authority, Karachi Port Trust, Gwadar Port Authority, and the National Logistics Corporation. The newly established company will offer cost-effective and environmentally sustainable dredging services at major ports throughout the country, diminishing dependence on foreign contractors and decreasing operation costs.
Creation of NDMS will enhance Pakistan’s capacity to conduct year-round dredging operations, which is critical to maintaining efficiency and operability of its ports. This action is likely to enhance the overall efficiency of the country’s maritime facilities.
Operations will start in October 2025, with capital dredging at Port Qasim, Pakistan’s busiest deep-sea port. This is only the start of Pakistan’s project to acquire its own dredging capacity, enhancing the capacity and functionality of its ports.
Through developing its own dredging services, Pakistan aims to provide for smoother and un-disrupted port operation, which will facilitate long-term shipping, logistics, and trade growth.
