SHC Rejects Petitions by Textile Manufacturers Against KWSC 9% Tariff Increase

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed several petitions presented by textile producers and exporters against the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). The petitions sought to challenge a KWSC notification issued on October 30, 2019, raising water tariff rates by 9% with a retrospective effect from July 1, 2017.

The bench, comprised of Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Muhammad Usman Ali Hadi, pronounced a detailed 11-page judgment. The court ordered that the matters concerning the petitioners could have been resolved through some other legal avenues and not under constitutional jurisdiction. The petitioners were directed to pursue any available statutory remedy for their grievances.

The petitioners were ably represented by Chaudhry Atif Rafique, Makhdoom Muhammad Talha, Naeem Suleman, Arshad Hussain, Faiz Mehmood Khan Durrani, and Sundar Lal Lohana, whereas KWSC was represented by Waleed Rehan Khanzada.
