Lahore High Court Issues Notices to Federation in Petition by Lahore Customs Agents Association

Karachi: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has served notices to the Federation and the Attorney General of Pakistan on a petition filed by the Lahore Customs Agents Association. The petition questions the legality of Rules 101A and 105 of the Customs Rules.

The petition has been filed on behalf of Lahore Customs Agents Association by their legal counsel, Junaid Jabbar Khan, saying that recent alterations introduced to the Customs Rules during December 2024, under a notification, are against the provisions of the Customs Act of 1969. In particular, the petition identifies that the new rules clash with Section 32 of the Customs Act that already has an explicit mechanism to impose certain penalties.

The LHC bench, presided over by Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi, ordered the issuance of notices to the concerned respondents and the Attorney General of Pakistan. This was after the first hearing, in accordance with the legal process stipulated under Order XXVII-A of the Civil Procedure Code (CPC).
