Tramadol Smuggling Case: Accused Gets Bail in Karachi

Karachi: A man named Hameedullah Khan, son of Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar, has been granted bail by the Special Court for Customs, Taxation, and Anti-Smuggling-I in Karachi. He was released after providing a surety of Rs. 200,000 and a personal bond of the same amount.

The case was about an alleged attempt to smuggle Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets to Sierra Leone. Pakistan Customs Enforcement registered the case after they raided a shipping container booked under GD No: KPEX-SB-161975-09032025. The shipment was sent by Ahmad Trading and was supposed to go to MS Corporation in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The container was cleared through the Green Channel and was declared to contain 170 cartons of towels weighing 6100 kg.

Lawyer Umer Farooq, who represented the accused, argued that Hameedullah Khan’s name was not mentioned in the FIR (First Information Report) or the interim charge sheet. The lawyer said there was no solid evidence or specific role assigned to his client. The only claim was that he acted as a broker, which is not directly linked to smuggling.

The judge said that there is not enough proof right now to directly connect the accused to the smuggling activity. The case is still under investigation, so granting bail would not hurt the prosecution’s case.

Based on this, the court granted bail to Hameedullah Khan. He must submit a solvent surety of Rs. 200,000 and a personal bond of the same amount.

The full court order is available separately.
