Pakistan Incomes Increase from India Imports
Despite on going suspension of India Imports, trade imports from Pakistan’s neighboring country have surged well. The latest statistics reveal that in the preceding year, imports from India increased 46 percent to Pakistan.
Imports from India have risen 45% in September 2024 to nearly $36 million, after $24.5 million in October 2023. Thus imports grew with a notable increase as the country had placed restrictions on trade. There was also a rise in imports recorded 5% in August 2024.
Imports from India also increased month by month in both May 2023 and between January and March 2024. Even though Pakistan had suspended trade with India from August 2019, it continued to allow some imports – indeed essential items – and now has accepted the importation of life-saving medicines from India to cater for acute medical needs.
The upward spike, therefore, is an indication of growing dependence on the country’s goods even under the strangled trade relations currently existing.
