The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in collaboration with the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) arranged a significant awareness session on Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and Battery Swapping Regulations 2024 at the Chamber House.
The session registered robust participation from the business fraternity, reflecting an increasing interest in the future of electric vehicles (EVs) and green energy solutions in Pakistan. The forum highlighted the necessity of shifting to environmentally friendly habits by international trends.
While giving the welcome address, ICCI President Nasir Mansoor Qureshi identified the Chamber’s efforts toward fostering a business-friendly environment promoting entrepreneurship and economic growth. He asked the graduates to opt for entrepreneurial ventures instead of seeking mere jobs. He further stressed Pakistan needs to opt for sustainable models and underscored that there must be coordination between policymakers, captains of industry, and stakeholders in the successful progress of EV infrastructure.
Dr. Sardar Mohazzam, Managing Director at NEECA, presented the keynote speech, outlining new policies aimed at enhancing the setup of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Battery Swapping Stations throughout Pakistan. The policies intended to promote the adoption of EVs by building a conducive ecosystem, such as simplified business procedures, low electricity tariffs for charging EVs, and promoting public-private partnerships for expanding the EV network.
Dr. Mohazzam also touched upon the need to ready the electricity infrastructure, facilitate small and medium enterprises, and help Pakistan comply with emissions reduction.
Syed Ahsan Abbas, Director of Electrical NEECA, presented a comprehensive overview of the registration procedure, operational framework, and enforcement system for EV infrastructure. His presentation covered most of the concerns, providing clarity on how these rules help investors and the overall business community.
Naeem Siddiqui, Special Advisor to the ICCI President, highlighted the need for creating trust among the investors and requested concerned authorities to make sure there is transparency as well as address the concerns properly.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where organizers answered questions from prospective investors and explained the advantages of the new regulations and opportunities in the EV industry.
Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, ICCI Senior Vice President, wrapped up the session with a vote of thanks, hoping that the session would be beneficial for investors and contribute to the development of the EV ecosystem in Pakistan.
The session was also joined by ICCI Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, Executive Members Waseem Chaudhry, Irfan Chaudhry, Malik Aqeel, Chaudhry Nadeem Ahmed, and other esteemed members of the Chamber.
