Pakistan Refines Passport System with New High-Speed Printers
KARACHI: Pakistan has made a significant move towards refining its passport issuing process with the arrival of two high-tech e-passport printers and six desktop printers from Germany. A foreign technical team is also present in Karachi to facilitate the installation of the new machines.
Mustafa Jamal Qazi, Director-General of Passports, also paid a visit to the e-printer section when they arrived and briefed on the process of installation. He pointed out that the new printers have a very high print capacity, and they can make 1,000 passports within an hour. This will significantly boost efficiency in providing passports.
Qazi added that when the printers are running at full capacity, the passport production process would be quicker and more efficient in serving applicants. He also confirmed Pakistan’s intention to provide high-quality passport services across the globe.
This upgrade comes after the improvement last year, when 10 new modern passport printers were introduced, doubling the Passport Department’s production capacity. With the new machines, the department can now produce 40,000 passports per day, up from the previous 20,000.
These improvements are likely to further minimize delays, to the advantage of many Pakistanis, particularly those going abroad, by making the passport process faster and more efficient.
