    What is a CNIC?

    The Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC PIC) is an important identity document every citizen of Pakistan should have in his/her pocket. A CNIC is the only proof of identity you will ever need, and it is required for most government services, opening new bank accounts, and traveling in the country.

    Why do you want to get a CNIC?

    • Verify Identity: Applying for a CNIC is the easiest way to validate your identity while doing business in judicial and official matter.
    • Access to Services: All governmental and banking services can now be applied for and verified through a CNIC
    • Voting Rights: With a CNIC, a person can vote in the country’s elections to ensure his voice and opinions are represented.

    How to Apply for a CNIC

    • Eligibility: Verify that you meet the required age and citizenship criteria.
    • Supporting Documents: Gather all the documents that will be required to apply, such as a birth certificate and proof of residence.
    • Visit NADRA Office: Get an appointment to your local National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office.
    • Fill in Application: Complete the application and attach all pertinent documents.
    • Biometric Data Collection: Fingerprints and Photograph will be taken from you for verification.
    • Getting CNIC: After a CNIC is processed then it is sent to the registered address.

    CNIC Structure Knowledge

    Province Identifier by First Digit
    The province you belong to is identified through the very first digit of the CNIC. See how you can identify yours:

    1 – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK)
    2 – Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)
    3 – Punjab
    4 – Sindh
    5 – Balochistan
    6 – Islamabad Capital Territory
    7 – Gilgit-Baltistan

    Division Identifier by Second Digit

    The division within the province in which you are staying is identified through the second digit. Even if you share a common province with someone else, your second digit will be different.

    Next Three Digits: District, Tehsil, and Union Council

    The next three numbers represent the actual district, tehsil and union council which gives a further description of your neighborhood.

    Middle Eight Digits: Family Number

    This is the family number in the middle that is segmented using hyphens, for example *****-74196350-* and it provides your family number which may give information about the relationship between people of your family based on blood relations.

    Last Digit: Determines Gender

    The last number tells whether you are male or female. This is based on the following numbers:

    Odd numbers such as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 may be males CNIC holders.
    Numbers such as 2, 4, 6, and 8 represent the female CNIC holders.
