Govt likely to hike petrol, diesel prices tonight
ISLAMABAD: The government will hike the price of petrol by Rs1.24 per liter and diesel by Rs4.49 per liter with effect from tonight. This hike will be effective for two weeks. According to sources, this increase has been made owing to the international increase in the prices of petroleum products.
In the last few days, petrol and diesel prices have hiked due to disturbances in shipping through the Red Sea and Suez Canal. It has hindered the crude oil supply coming from the US and Africa, causing a surge in global oil prices, further raising the prices of petrol and diesel.
Industry sources stated that the petrol price will rise to Rs257.37 per liter, meaning an increase of Rs1.24 from the current price at Rs256.13 per liter. Diesel price will also hike to Rs265.44 per liter, rising by Rs4.49 from the current price.
Prices of other fuels such as kerosene oil and light diesel oil (LDO) would also be increased. “Kerosene oil would rise by Rs5.93 a litre, and LDO could go up by Rs5.05 a litre,” he said.
This revision comes in the wake of a price hike announced by the government on January 15, when it raised the petrol price by Rs3.47 a litre. The high-speed diesel was also enhanced from Rs258.34 to Rs260.95.
