Ogra Takes Action Against Gas Theft and Illegal LPG Practices
ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) announced on Tuesday that it has started a crackdown on the theft of gas, illegal decanting, and the mixing of carbon dioxide (CO2) with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in three provinces: Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Ogra issued a statement saying that it has become very concerned about safety violations in LPG operations. In response, Ogra has sent teams to areas known for illegal activities to take immediate action. These actions include stopping illegal decanting, gas theft, and CO2 mixing with LPG.
The illegal mixing of CO2 with LPG was found in several locations in Sindh, including Khairpur, Ghotki, Pano Aqil, and Ranipur. Ogra also discovered that substandard LPG cylinders were being made in Gujranwala.
Ogra’s teams were also sent to Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan, where recent fire accidents at LPG plants caused major losses. These fires threatened public safety and damaged property.
Working with local authorities, Ogra’s enforcement teams raided four sites in Sindh. At these sites, they found CO2 mixing with LPG, sealed the sites, and filed FIRs against those responsible.
The teams also reported negligence in local LPG handling, which led to explosions in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan. Additionally, they sealed three sites in Gujranwala where substandard LPG cylinders were being manufactured.
Ogra’s teams visited several locations in Sindh, including Thehri Pass, Shah Hussain Bypass, and National Highway Ranipur, where illegal activities like gas theft and CO2 mixing were discovered. These sites were sealed, and legal action was taken.
This crackdown aims to improve safety standards and prevent further accidents caused by unsafe LPG practices.
