There is a Public Holiday in Lahore on April 12, 2025, for Mela Chiraghan
The government of Punjab has declared a public holiday in Lahore on April 12, 2025, for Mela Chiraghan. The holiday is to commemorate the annual Urs of Sufi saint and 16th-century Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Hussain.
The holiday was confirmed through a formal notification by the Services and General Administration Department (Welfare Wing). The holiday shall be observed across all government offices and institutions in the Lahore district.
Following notification, the public holiday is earmarked for Hazrat Shah Hussain’s Urs, also known as Mela Chiraghan. The Punjab Civil Secretariat and its attached offices, though, will open on this day.
Mela Chiraghan, or the Festival of Lights, is one of the most significant cultural and religious festivals in Lahore. The festival takes place at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Hussain and draws huge crowds of devotees, artists, and Sufi followers. The festival includes musical performances, poetry, and rituals that celebrate the life and teachings of Hazrat Shah Hussain.
