Sustainable Economic Policies Necessary for Pakistan’s Progress: Nasir Qureshi
ISLAMABAD: Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), urged the adoption of long-term economic policies to lead Pakistan towards sustainable prosperity and growth.
Addressing business leaders, Qureshi admitted that although the economy of the country is starting to see revival, there are significant challenges to be met. He emphasized the need for political stability and consistency in economic policies to unleash Pakistan’s full economic potential.
Qureshi highlighted that the government must collaborate closely with business leaders while framing economic policies. This would result in a friendly business environment, which would fuel economic growth and investment.
He also emphasized that there was a need for industrial estates with state-of-the-art infrastructure. With tax incentives, fewer regulatory hurdles, and enhanced logistics, such estates could attract local and international investors.
Besides, Qureshi identified the huge tourism potential of Pakistan and advocated for improved infrastructure and international publicity of Pakistan’s tourist places. He proposed that alluring foreigners by developing ecotourism, heritage tourism, and religious tourism would attract foreigners, earn foreign exchange, and provide employment.
Qureshi also underscored the necessity of tax reforms. Streamlining taxes and broadening the tax base would enhance government revenue without increasing the burden on current taxpayers.
Lastly, Qureshi re-affirmed the commitment of ICCI to filling the gap between the private sector and the government. He urged the government to join forces with the business community to chart strategies that will spur investment, generate employment, and secure long-term economic stability.
